Mission Statement
Cross Movement Social Justice Consulting specializes in customized capacity building, facilitation, strategic planning, and culturally responsive organizational development. Our client portfolio includes charitable organizations, philanthropic communities, social justice movements, and higher education. Consultants incorporate multiple pedagogies, including participatory facilitation methods for adult learning, intergroup dialogue, critical race, anti-racism, feminist, and queer theories as well as practices that reflect a nuanced understanding of implicit bias, racial healing, and trauma-informed approaches. As a queer, Latina, cisgender woman, Rosemary acknowledges her privilege and commits to this professional trajectory for her own self-determination and because liberation from all forms of oppression is inextricably linked.
Why do you think it’s important for your business or organization to support nonprofits and community organizations in Southeast Michigan and what kind of positive impact do you think your work could have?
Rosemary has devoted her work and studies to promoting social justice across the lines of race, ethnicity, class, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, disability, class, religion, and age. She has worked with an extensive portfolio of clients, focusing on nonprofits in Michigan. Nonprofits and grassroots organizations are driving social change in this state and country. In order to support their missions, nonprofit leaders have had to do more with less. This cycle of scarcity and disinvestment is particularly true for organizations led by and accountable to communities of color. Since founding the company in 2010, Rosemary has demonstrated a consistent track record of bolstering nonprofits’ abilities to most effectively advance their missions and goals while applying a racial equity lens. For client organizations led by people of color, this work centers around advocacy, coalition building, and resource generation. For white-led nonprofit clients, this work affirms the theory that in order to move the needle related to diversity, equity, and inclusion in the nonprofit sector, organizations must design and implement action plans that tie specific strategies and activities with goals and measurable outcomes to track progress and adapt as needed. To accomplish this, associated consultants practice emergent and iterative strategies to achieve goals, while emphasizing building power with and amongst traditionally oppressed groups. Rosemary is committed to working toward a vibrant nonprofit sector that embodies the principles of social justice and racial equity in organizational programming, culture, policies, and practices that will ultimately result in societal transformation and systems change.
