Mission Statement
Caitlyn Pisarski (she/her) founded Motor City Soap Company in 2012 and began teaching soapmaking classes in 2015. Since then, she’s shared the science and art of cold process soapmaking with more than 300 soap enthusiasts. Motor City Soap makes vegan soaps and natural body care products that are inspired by nature and handmade in Detroit’s Core City neighborhood. All products are made with 100% certified organic oils and scented with plant-based essential oils. Caitlyn is originally from Milwaukee, Wisconsin and moved to Detroit in 2010 after completing her MSW at the University of Michigan. She is a licensed clinical social worker and a nonprofit leader in adult education.
Why do you think it’s important for your business or organization to support nonprofits and community organizations in Southeast Michigan and what kind of positive impact do you think your work could have?
I think that Motor City Soap offers a unique experience where nonprofit and community organization employees can step away from the stress of their work roles and participate in a new, challenging, supportive, and fun group activity. Soapmaking is a beautiful process that blends science and art to create something new from seemingly incompatible ingredients. The process of making soap requires openness, trust in your group, and a sense of wonder. Colors, scents, and textures throughout the soapmaking process can also evoke feelings and emotions that encourage sharing and conversation between coworkers. As a nonprofit employee, manager, and director over the years, I know how powerful non-work related group activities can be to boost morale and encourage employees to see each other in new and more positive ways. I hope that these workshops can bring the beauty and excitement of soapmaking to organizations while allowing them to relax and have fun in an inspiring environment.
