Service charges are developed based on the scope of the work. Hourly rates vary depending on staff level with a range from $16/hour for student assistants to $150 for some faculty. Most research staff have an hourly rate of &75 -$90/hour. In addition, if a project could logically include students who could receive credit, there would be no fee for those hours.
Mission Statement
The Center for Social Work Research serves as the research hub at the Wayne State University School of Social Work. The Center embodies the values of social work by using program evaluation to improve program services for greater access, racial equity and effectiveness. We do this by nurturing partnerships with the Detroit area community and the network of organizations and agencies. Research staff have expertise in needs assessment, program evaluation, grant writing, and data analysis. Faculty bring content expertise in areas such as interpersonal violence, child and family supports, community development and mental health and substance abuse prevention and treatment.
Why do you think it’s important for your business or organization to support nonprofits and community organizations in Southeast Michigan and what kind of positive impact do you think your work could have?
We believe that nonprofits including start-ups and established institutions serve as a safety net tackling complex problems in neighborhoods and communities. It is part of the WSU School of Social Work’s urban mission to strengthen and support the network of services and programs and promoting social justice, both of which are essential for meeting the social and economic needs in southeastern Michigan. We think it is important to ground our teaching and research based upon real case examples of partnerships working together to develop innovative programs and to create a system of evaluation processes that produces actionable strategies for change. Based upon our experience, and depending on the scope of work, there are several impacts that may result from our service. We expect to strengthen nonprofit capacity to use information and data to inform decision-making about new programs and services or ways to expand current services to reach more customers/clients. Our grant writing assistance often includes consultation on developing a theory of change and linking services to measurable outcomes ensuring a coherent program plan. This will help nonprofits to effectively compete for funding. Finally, by involving students in our work we help create a pipeline for staffing nonprofits with a trained workforce ready to collaborate for making community impact.
