Why do you think it’s important for your business or organization to support nonprofits and community organizations in Southeast Michigan and what kind of positive impact do you think your work could have?
I’ve lived here for 20 years, I understand the needs of our community and believe that equity for all raises everyone. Nonprofits are the key to this, and I would like to be part of that solution. Through my volunteer work teaching the GED in Spanish I have seen the resilience that students display and the joy they have in moving forward, just wanting to set a good example for their children. As a woman-owned business I know that it’s extremely fulfilling to see someone bridge educational and other gaps. At Gateway to Grants, we would like to be part of Co.act’s drive for transformative change in eliminating those gaps. Gateway to Grants can have a positive impact in SE Michigan because our values align with Co.act’s collaborative ideal. Although we have local context, we support clients around the country and can contribute to the peer learning discussions about best practices. Authentic community requires listening and building trust. These practices foster collaboration but nimble implementation is also needed to achieve our clients’ vision and Gateway to Grants has that. We build trust, making the work very personal.
