Mission Statement
WordSource’s purpose is to use its network and expertise to help organizations attract resources, including money and relationships, that allow them to deliver on their mission. It is committed to providing high quality, thoughtful work products that accurately reflect the stories, capacities, and needs of its clients. It primarily serves nonprofits in Southeast Michigan, though it has worked for agencies in the western part of the state and nationally. WordSource is motivated by creating equity within the sector and helping competent, ethical, and inspirational leaders realize their visions.
Why do you think it’s important for your business or organization to support nonprofits and community organizations in Southeast Michigan and what kind of positive impact do you think your work could have?
My 20-plus years of experience working in the nonprofit sector are the foundation for WordSource’s values. I’ve been fortunate to function in a variety of roles and work on diverse projects with mentors who invested in my success. As a result, I was able to focus on my strengths and cultivate a set of skills relevant to the sector. I’ve learned that my niche is identifying and attracting support for those with the talent and vision to make change. It’s vital for me and WordSource to engage in this work because improving the lives of those living on the margins of society requires financial, human, and other resources. My joy has been using my network and expertise to help organizations raise money and build relationships that allow them to deliver on their mission. Besides working with organizations to build capacity, WordSource enables philanthropy by making donors who are seeking giving opportunities aware of lesser-known nonprofits engaged in impactful work. This is important because it contributes to equity by helping to distribute wealth to grass-roots organizations. While they have smaller budgets and staff, many of them are plugged into the people they serve in a way large organizations may not be. Their agility enables them to pivot quickly, delivering programs that may be more solutions-oriented and responsive.
